General
What does Sleebi offer?
Sleebi is a content platform that aims to deliver the best experience tailored for ASMR and sleep-related content. Features include:
- no disruptive ads waking you up
- a blue-light filter and screen-dimming (all the way to black), accessible straight from the video player
- playing content with your screen turned off
- a sleep timer that pauses content after a certain amount of time, saving battery life after you've fallen asleep
- downloading content for offline viewing
- a dark theme to rest your eyes
Will Sleebi ever have ads?
Ideally Sleebi could generously support its creators without ads, but the reality is that most viewers don't pay.
This is why we're currently working on a solution with quiet/ASMR ads that could run before a video.
Importantly ads will never disrupt your sleep, as that is the core
problem Sleebi is meant to solve. This means loud ads will never be shown during or at the end of
a piece of content.
Will more creators be joining the platform?
Yes! Adding creators is a balancing act due to the associated server-costs, but new creators are constantly joining, and are always welcome to sign up!
Is there an app for Sleebi?
Sleebi is a PWA (Progressive Web App), which means you can install it from the browser if you use Chrome or Safari. It then acts like a regular app on your phone, complete with an icon on your home screen and full-screen display without needing to go through the App Store or Google Play.
iOS (iPhone/iPad - Safari)
- Open Sleebi in Safari.
- Tap the Share button (the square icon with an arrow pointing up).
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add in the top right corner.
Android (Chrome)
- Open Sleebi in Chrome.
- Tap the three dots menu in the top right corner.
- Tap Install app or Add to Home screen.
- Confirm by tapping Install or Add.
Who is behind Sleebi?
Hi! My name is Luuk but online I've been going by "ObviouslyASMR"
since 2016. I started watching ASMR to fall asleep even years before that, so this community means a lot to me.
I've been sad to see
YouTube deteriorate the ASMR watching experience
more and more, and I just happen to be a programmer,
so in 2023, while talking to other creators and viewers about their needs,
I started this little side-project to help give ASMR its own safe space.
All I could afford to invest is time, so I've been working on the platform alone, but that is also a big reason why I can afford
to be generous towards creators; I don't need much to support myself and I'll never have investors to satisfy. Of course
it also means I don't have a buffer to take a loss, so Sleebi can only exist thanks to anyone who helps cover the costs.
Be it paying users, or creators who provide content for them, thank you all!
Creators
How are creators paid?
One of Sleebi's main goals is to generously compensate creators, as they create the real value here.
Revenue is split between the creators directly proportionate to their monetized views, while the platform
takes only 10% in the standard bracket. Minimum payouts of $90 (to minimize transaction fees for you) should be sent ~21 days after each
service month. This means, if you've accumulated at least $90, your earnings from January should be paid before the end of February,
and so on.
For now, payment methods will be discussed personally with each creator, but eventually payments will likely
be handled through either Stripe, PayPal, or bank transfers.
How do the earnings compare to other platforms?
Ultimately the earnings depend on the amount of users on Sleebi, but we can roughly compare
your earnings per view to YouTube's (one of the higher-paid platforms).
If your CPM on YouTube is $10 (extremely high for ASMR), that leaves you with an RPM
around $5.50, after YouTube takes their piece. This means if you get 1000 views per month,
you'll earn $5.50 per month on YouTube.
On Sleebi things works slightly differently under the subscription model,
so we'll need to estimate what those 3000 views mean in terms of unique users. A Sleebi user
watches 10 videos per month on average; so then 1000 views equal 100 unique Sleebi users. Even with the modest price of $0.99/month,
that means $99 for those 1000 views, leaving you with ~$89.10 after Sleebi takes its 10% cut, more than 16 times what YouTube pays.
The difference would be even greater for other platforms, if you have a lower YouTube CPM (most do), or if the Sleebi users pay for a higher subscription tier.
Once Sleebi includes quiet ads, these will also charge a very competitive CPM, since they can be targeted towards this particular niche,
with an engaged audience BEFORE they fall asleep. Combined with Sleebi's smaller cut, this means your ad RPM will also be higher than YouTube's.
Of course the limiting factor is that Sleebi is starting from zero, so the userbase will have to grow to be able to
offer decent revenue. The good part is that that's in your hands! Any viewer you already have on other platforms
might love Sleebi, and if they joined would benefit you more here than there, so feel free to spread the word!
It's in everyone's interest :) (except the billion-dollar corporations).
What is expected of me as a creator?
Things are kept as simple as possible for creators on Sleebi.
All you need to do, is provide permission to serve your content (or a specific subset you select).
Sleebi has built-in tools to automate the process of transferring the content you choose.
Uploading exclusive content is optional, so all you need to do to be a creator on Sleebi is press
a few buttons once, keep posting as much as you like on whatever other platforms, and let Sleebi do the rest :)
Of course it'd be amazing if you also
engage with the community, but that's up to you!
Can anyone join as a creator?
Every creator is welcome to sign up and submit their channel! Or contact me personally @obviously.luuk on Instagram. Keep in mind there might be a waiting period for new creators, as I need to make sure their content is suitable for the platform, but eventually all suitable creators will be added.
How can I join Sleebi?
To submit your channel, you first need to create a user account. Afterwards you can verify that you're the owner of
your YouTube channel. When your channel is manually approved, you're officially a Sleebi creator!
Here's a quick video tutorial on how to submit your channel and add videos:
Can I upload all of my videos?
Yes, but only 10GB of content storage per month is free per creator. If you want to upload more, storage costs of up to $0.005/video
will be deducted from your monthly earnings.
This cost seems negligible, but encourages mindfulness about the long-term and large-scale usage of datacenters,
and will hopefully help minimize Sleebi's environmental impact.
What kind of videos are allowed?
Unjustified demonetization has plagued ASMR content on YouTube for a long time, and Sleebi will naturally be much more understanding, as it's specifically designed for ASMR. However, overtly sexual content is not allowed, for example content with a focus on:
- nudity
- moaning
- sexually explicit language
